Abstract
This paper reviews the current phenomenological approach to the characterization of particulate thin film media and considers the problems involved with the creation of controlled samples for comparison with the new mathematical models. It shows that ferromagnetic resonance is an extremely powerful tool in the investigation of particulate thin film media but notes that both the power and the weakness of the technique rests in its sensitivity to a wide variety of parameters. In particular it is emphasised that a clear understanding of both the theoretical and experimental approximations is required for a valid interpretation of the data.
