Abstract

Should obscure transactions with divine entities or fictions about barbarian liberty bottom political theory? The political philosophies of Hobbes, Filmer, Locke, et al. seem untenable. And I prefer David Hume’s calm “scepticism,” leading to his empirical political theory, to Sir Edward Coke’s Whiggish myths, enshrined by Lord Macaulay.
