Abstract
SUMMARY Phylloscopus brevirostris (Strickland) of Asia Minor is redescribed. It appears to be closest to lorenzii of the Caucasus on the basis of structure and pattern, but approaches P. collybita abietinus, which also breeds in the Caucasus, in pigmentation. Two species of chiffchaff type are recognized, P. collybita, a migratory northern and western form, and a sedentary south and eastern form (probably derived from a northern population of P. collybita which had reduced lipochromes) for which P. brevirostris may be the appropriate name.
