Abstract
The police in London have trained lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) liaison officers who are skilled at dealing with members of the LGBT community (features February 7). This initiative could be used as a model for LGBT liaison nurses in hospital wards, outpatient clinics and the community. People in the UK who identify as LGBT have higher rates of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, self- harm, eating disorders and suicidal behaviour. Many view public services as institutionally homophobic.
