Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of clinical application of fibrin glue for attaching limbal-conjunctival autograft after pterygium blunt dissection, and assess the efficiency and safety of using a fibrin glue to adhere the limbal-conjunctival autograft.METHODS Twenty patients(20 eyes)with primary nasal pterygium were subjected to limbal-conjunctival autografts surgery. The pterygium was blunt dissected and the autograft was fixed to the bare sclera using the fibrin glue. The follow-up period was 6 months.RESULTS All limbal-conjunctival autografts in this group were successfully fixed and intact during the 6 months. The time of surgery was 20.5±3.6 minutes.Sbjective symptoms of pain, foreign body sensation and watering were mild. There were no cases of recurrence of the pterygium.CONCLUSIONS The method of application of fibrin glue for attaching limbal-conjunctival autograft after pterygium blunt dissection was safe and effective. This technique could reduce the time of surgery and avoid the sensation of irritation.
