Abstract
The experiment was conducted to study the relationship of biochemical parameters i.e. total chlorophyll content, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity with per cent dead hearts caused by shootfly. The association of total chlorophyll content was positively correlated with per cent dead hearts, while polyphenol and peroxidase activity were negatively correlated at both the growth stages (i.e.14 and 28 days after sowing) with per cent dead hearts. The ‘r’ values however, were higher in magnitude among the group of crosses, involving 104 A and 1409 A as female parent. Thus suggesting the important role of resistant female parent in the expression of shootfly resistance.
