Sun Yat-sen attached great importance to the development of agriculture all his life and thought agriculture the basis of national economy, connecting the prosperity of agriculture with the fate of the nation closely. He attributed the backwardness of China's agriculture to the underdeveloped science and technology and believed that China's agriculture would have a bright future as long as we combined our good traditions and the western science and technology, constantly improved it and made full of our own advantages. He favored the ideas of developing agriculture by science and technology: 1. Established scientific agriculture managements systems; 2. Spread education about agriculture, improving the quality of labors; 3. Lead farmers to cultivate their land scientifically; 4. Mechanize China's agriculture, improving the labor productivity. Sun Yat-sen's ideas of developing agriculture by science and technology were not carried out thoroughly at that time due to various reasons, but had profound influence on today's reform of the country and development of agriculture.
