Abstract
Recurring theme in meetings with national and foreign experts, the dam safety is characterized by the capacity of the dam to provide information under the basis of this analysis and avoid the occurrence of breakdowns or accidents that may result in social, economic and environmental impacts of large dimensions. This study aimed to investigate, through a visual inspection, security conditions in three earth dams in Ceara. Through the objectives and purposes of this study was carried out applied research, exploratory and descriptive, based on cross-section where it was considered a nonprobabilistic sample. From the resulting photographic and descriptive history of the formal inspection was detected that there is a distinct lack of regular maintenance on dams analyzed. However despite the occurrences detected, were not identified risk factors, such as erosion of large, extensive cracking, piping, among others, which could eventually lead to incidents / accidents immediately.
