The molecule possesses square pyramidal geometry with a VO double bond length of 1.597(5) A and average VS and VO distances of 2.375 and 1.964 A, respectively. The vanadium atom is displaced from the best plane spanned by the four ligand donor atoms by 0.644(1) A. Reaction of 1 with SOCl2 affords the dichloro complex trans-[VCl2(C5H4NOS)2] (2).
