Abstract
Electron-positron collisions at high energy complement the exploration of the energy frontier in particle physics through hadron colliders. In this summary, the physics motivation for a linear collider (LC) is reviewed. The challenges imposed on the LC detectors are summarized and detector concepts emerging from a world-wide design effort are described. The ongoing R&D-work for these detectors is exemplified.
