Abstract
Abstract The effect of dl-propranolol and its isomers on noradrenaline (NA) and serotonin (5-HT) responses of Purkinje neurones of the rat cerebellum was studied. Propranolol isomers failed, but the dl- and l-isomer antagonized the inhibitory responses to NA and 5-HT respectively. The results indicate that the clinical effect of propranolol and its isomers is not related to their β-adrenergic blocking activity but it may involve another neuronal mechanism.
