Abstract
Aim: To assess the radioprotective effect of Sodium Formate (SF). Methods: used hemolysis, GSH level of mice tissue homogenate and the change of conformation of plasmid PUC 19 as indexes. Results:SF reduced significantly hemolysis degree of erythrocyte suspensions irradiated by UV ( P 0 01). SF improved GSH levels of mice liver and kidney homogenates when mice were exposed to 6 Gy of 60 Coγ-rays ( P 0 05 or P 0 01). SF raised the percentage of supercoil conformation of PUC 19 irradiated by 100 Gy of 60 Co γ-rays compare with control group ( P 0 05 or P 0 01). Conclusion: SF scavenged free radical damage caused by UV of γ-irradiation, it has radioprotective effect.
Sodium formate has a radioprotective effect by reducing free radical damage caused by UV and -irradiation.
