Abstract
2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole was electropolymerized in boron trifuoride diethyl etherate and a novel conducting polymer poly(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole) was electrodeposited. The oxidation potential onset of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole was initiated at 0.7 V versus a saturated calomel electrode(SCE),which was much lower than that determined in acetonitrile containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate(1.57 V vs.SCE).Poly(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole) films obtained from boron trifuoride diethyl etherate showed an electrical conductivity of 0.23 S cm-1.IR and NMR studies showed that the polymerization of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole occurred at C4 and C5 position.
Poly(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole) is a novel conducting polymer with low oxidation potential and high electrical conductivity, making it a promising material for electrodes and batteries.
