Abstract
With the world focusing on finding natural alternatives for all possible products as a measure to protect the degrading environment, ambrette seed oil can be a novel replacement for synthetic musk used in the ever-growing perfume industry. Musk fragrance is one of the most popular base notes used in perfumes. Possible experimental methods for extraction of essential oil with the desired quality are reviewed and selection of solvent is discussed. The selection of the process is done based on the yield, quality of oil in terms of odour and shelf life. Index Terms – Solvent extraction, steam distillation, polarity, ambrettolide.
