Abstract
Zolpidem (ZLP) is an imidazopyridine that binds to GABA receptors. We report on improvement of blepharospasm in 3 patients treated with ZLP. The GABAergic action of this drug on the output structures of the basal ganglia could explain the improvement of blepharospasm in these patients. © 2004 Movement Disorder Society
Study Snapshot
Zolpidem may improve blepharospasm in patients by binding to GABA receptors, potentially due to its GABAergic action on the output structures of the basal ganglia.

Pallidal deep brain stimulation in patients with cervical dystonia and severe cervical dyskinesias with cervical myelopathy
Chronic pallidal stimulation effectively improves cervical dystonia severity and disability, and is a useful adjunct for patients with cervical dyskinesias and secondary cervical myelopathy undergoing spinal surgery.

Sensory tricks in cervical dystonia: Perceptual dysbalance of parietal cortex modulates frontal motor programming
Sensory tricks in cervical dystonia improve muscle spasms and head posture by increasing activation in the parietal cortex and decreasing activity in the primary sensorimotor cortex.

Factors that ameliorate or aggravate spasmodic torticollis
Stress, self-consciousness, walking, fatigue, and carrying objects exacerbate spasmodic torticollis, while relaxation, sleep, and lying on the side improve it.

The pathophysiology of primary dystonia.
Primary dystonia results from a functional disturbance of the basal ganglia, causing altered thalamic control of cortical motor planning and executive areas, and abnormal regulation of brainstem and spinal cord inhibitory interneuronal mechanisms.
