Abstract
Objective: To perform a review to assess the influence of orthodontic treatment on buccal corridor dimension. Material and methods: A search was conducted on MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases to identify studies published in the last decade. Inclusion criteria consisted of clinical studies and systematic reviews evaluating the influence of orthodontic treatment on buccal corridor. Narrative reviews and studies not evaluating the relationship between buccal corridor and type of orthodontic treatment were excluded. Results: Among a total of 336, 326 were excluded after reading the abstract and 10 (nine clinical studies and one systematic review) were read in full. Conclusions: There was no direct relationship between orthodontic treatment with dental extractions and buccal corridor width. However, this treatment was found to be related to expansion and reduction of buccal corridor dimension
