Abstract
Following an initiative by the NEA Committee on Reactor Physics (NEACRP) at their meeting in September 1980, the NEA Steering Committee approved the setting up of a Joint European-Japanese Programme on Neutron Data Evaluations. A Scientific Coordinating Group was formed to determine the content of the Joint Evaluated File (JEF) and to co-ordinate work in national research organisations associated with the periodic revisions to this library. The NEA Data Bank is taking care of the secretariat functions of the Programme and will also, among other things, assemble and maintain the Joint Evaluated File (JEF). The plans are to release a first version of the file at the end of 1982, followed by a period of re-evaluations and benchmark testing, which will lead to the release of a second version at the end of 1985. The availability of the file will be restricted to the member countries of the NEA Data Bank.
