Abstract Records on absolute minima of air temperature on the earth are analyzed geographically and in the course of time. A great deal of controversy is clarified and misleading references to incorrect values are traced to their causes. Proper documentation is provided for establishment of the true values of lowest air temperatures, as of this date, for the coldest regions on the globe—the South Polar Plateau, northeastern Siberia, Greenland, and Canada.
