In the following senior thesis, the ultimate strength of the Bulk Carrier is calculated using 
the common regulations of the International Association of Classification Societies. First, 
a brief reference is made to the CSR regulations, as well as to key concepts related to the 
specific study. Next, the Smith method is analyzed, which was used both to find the 
maximum strength of the aforementioned Bulk Carrier and for an experimental box-girder. 
The method is applied to an Excel program by creating appropriate software. The test is 
performed for both hogging and sagging mode. Finally we come to the conclusions of the 
process.
