Abstract
Using the cone penetration test (CPT) data and the earthquake loading information, which includes the magnitude and peak ground acceleration, collected from the webbased database provided by USGS National Seismic Hazard Mapping Project, the liquefaction potential and the probability of liquefaction-induced ground failure of each site in the Charleston quadrangle can be calculated. With the locations of the CPTs and the probability of ground failure of the sites, the liquefaction hazard map of the Charleston quadrangle can be developed. The methodology proposed in this study provides an applicable way to develop a liquefaction hazard map, which enables the engineer and the policy maker to make an informed decision.
