Abstract
Many details of the process of memory recall are not known (or are disputed). Even so, some researchers say it9s time to revise some aspects of the standard view—such as the notion that the hippocampus is not involved in retrieving older episodic memories, and that memories become fixed and unchangeable once transferred to the neocortex. Newer work suggests a far more fluid role of memory, and one in which retrieval plays a crucial role in shaping memory over time. (Read about more "Mysteries of the Brain.")
