Abstract

Some new syntheses of 1-[2′-(ethylsulfonyl)ethyl]-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (IV), a new antitrichomonal agent are described. The most successful method proved to be alkylation of sodium ethanesulfinate (XXI) with 1-(2′-haloethyl)-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazoles (1a,b) in dimethylformamide.
