Waveguiding epitaxial Ba2NaNb5O15 films have been prepared on (010)-oriented KTiOPO4 substrates by a pulsed laser deposition technique. The as-grown films were characterized by an x-ray diffraction technique, scanning electron microscopy and polarized light microscopy, which revealed that epitaxial (001)-oriented Ba2NaNb5O15 films with small surface roughness were achieved on (010)-oriented KTiOPO4 substrates. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was employed to determine the chemical constitution of the as-grown films. Favourable optical waveguiding properties were demonstrated by m-line and light propagation loss measurements of TM and TE multimodes.
