Abstract
90 ZREE N°5/2018 DOSSIER 2 JOURNEES SCIENTIFIQUES URSI 2018 Keywords : Ionosphere, propagation, modeling The ionosphere is a critical area of the Earth’s space environment, which plays a key role in the dynamics of the magnetospheric system. In fact, Space Wea- ther, which is the applicative framework of studies around Sun-Earth relations oriented towards the impact of these relations on human activities, is particu- larly interested in the ionosphere, as their effects are visible and immediate and can be critical, especially for communications. In order to better unders- tand how these relationships can impact communications, a three-dimensional, spherical geometry ray tracing code has been developed to simulate radio wave propagation in a realistic ionosphere. The first results of this study are encou- raging, the simulated trajectories are consistent with the Fermat principle, and the properties of the medium (variation of the electron density). The long-term goal is to couple this ray tracing tool with the ionosphere simulation model, IPIM, developed at IRAP, to create a forecast model for radio waves propagation and ionosphere estimation. It is also planned to inject obs
