Abstract
Objective To explore the values of three parameters: Serum protein, microvessel density(MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) in early diagnosis of microvascular invasion of small hepatocellular carcinoma(SHCC).Methods 58 serum samples were collected from patients with SHCC,who underwent hepatectomy.Surface-enhanced laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry(SELDI-TOF-MS) was applied to analyze protein expression pattern, and immunohistochemistry was conducted to test MVD and VEGF expression on resected tissue from these patients.Statistical analysis was performed to assess the correlation between the three parameters and microvascular invasion in SHCC.Results 20 cases of 58 patients had microvascular invasion. As shown by SELDI-TOF-MS,samples with microvascular invasion had significantly increased in protein peaks with molecular weight 4 196 and 5 832;immunohistochemistry result showed that MVD and VEGF expression were also higher in samples with microvascular invasion.Compared with samples without microvascular invasion, the differences had significant statistical value. Conclusion The expression of serum protein,MVD and VEGF in SHCC paving the way for earlier diagnosis of Microvascular Invasion in SHCC.The detection of expression of serum protein,MVD and VEGF,paves the way for early diagnosis of microvascular invasion in SHCC.
