Abstract
By adopting research methodologies of content analysis and discourse analysis,this study investigates the degree of participation in topic-based asynchronous online discussions on the basis of the in-depth analysis of their postings. It mainly focuses on the patterns of interpersonal interaction in these discussions from the perspectives of turntaking and negotiation of meaning.
