Abstract
that will provide from 3,000 to 3,500 calories per day. They also tell us that proteid food yields about 4 calories per gram, carbohydrates about the same, and that fat yields about 8*9 calories per gram. Proteid, of course, is absolutely necessary for fiesh-forming, but merely to provide energy carbohydrate is equally efficient, and during its combustion it not only gives off energy, but it also acts in preventing proteid waste.
Carbohydrates provide energy and prevent protein waste, while fats provide more calories per gram, but carbohydrates are equally efficient for providing energy and preventing protein waste.
