Abstract
ABSTRACT A new compound of 2,9-bis(2-fluorobenzyl)-β-carbolinium bromide, C25H19BrF2N2 has been synthesized by the decarboxylation of ethyl β-carboline-3-carboxylate with 2-fluorobenzyl bromide in the presence of sodium hydride in DMF, with good yield (92%). Its structure was characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, FT-IR, MS (ESI-MS) spectrum and elemental analysis. Meanwhile, its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The crystal is of orthorhombic, space group P212121 with a = 7.4788(13), b = 15.548(3), c = 17.386(3) Å, V = 2021.7(6) Å3, Z = 4, F(000) = 944, Dc = 1.529 g/cm3, µ = 2.066 mm−1 and α = 90°, β = 90°, γ = 90°. It has potential as an anticancer agent.
This study successfully synthesized 2,9-bis(2-fluorobenzyl)--carbolinium bromide, a potential anticancer agent, with good yield (92%).
