Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of different acupuncture methods in treating temporomandibular joint disorder. Methods 100 patients with temporomandibular joint disorder were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,50 in each. The treatment group received acupoint injection plus warm needling therapy, and the control was treated by electroacupuncture. The therapeutic effects were evaluated after 2 treatment sessions.Result The cured-effective rate(90.0%) and total effective rate(94.0%) in the treatment group were significantly better than that in the control(38.0% and 80.0% respectively)(P0.05).The treatment group took far less time than the control for attaining cured(P0.01).A follow-up study of half a year found markedly lower relapse rate in the treatment group compared with the control(P0.01).Conclusion Combined acupoint injection and warm needling therapy is efficient and effective in treating temporomandibular joint disorder, and with low relapse rate.
