Abstract
AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safty of lipitor at different doses for the treatment of senile patients with coronary heart disease.METHODS:Seventy-two patients(≥75 years old) with coronary heart diseases were randomized into therapy group and control group. In therapy group(n=35),lipitor 30 mg/d was orally administered before sleeping, and in control group(n=37) lipitor 10 mg/d was given in the same way.The total treatment lasted 15 weeks. The dosage was risen to 30 mg/d in control group for those who did not reach the control serum level after 5-week treatment.RESULTS:After 15-week treatment, the levels of total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in therapy group decreased remarkedly as compared with control group(P0.01).The incidence of non-lethal myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, cardiac death, and vascular reaonstruction in therapy group also declined(P0.05 vs control group). No more side effects of lipitor were seen after it had risen to 30 mg/d for 15 weeks(P0.05).CONCLUSION:Lipotor 30 mg/d is superior to lipotor 10 mg/d in reduction of TC,LDL-C,TG and increase of high-densily lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C).The side effects of lipitor 30 mg/d were mild and similar to 10 mg/d.30 mg/d lipitor is efficacy and safe for the senile patients with coronary heart diseases.
Lipitor 30 mg/d is more effective and safe for senile patients with coronary heart disease than 10 mg/d, reducing total cholesterol and LDL-C levels while increasing HDL-C levels.
