Abstract
Berger el a1.l have shown that carisoprodol does not show any detectable analgesic action when tested by the methods of Woolfe and MacDonald2 but that, with the silver-nitrate method of LaBelle and T i ~ l o w , ~ such action can be detected. The rat treated with silver nitrate recovers the mobility of the joint after treatment with carisoprodol orally even a t a dose level incapable of exercising a hypotonic effect. Using two methods, we have evaluated the central analgesic action and the myorelaxant effect of carisoprodol.
Carisoprodol shows central analgesic action and myorelaxant effect, with the silver-nitrate method detecting its analgesic action.
