Abstract
Diethyl malonate is an important organic synthetic intermediate which is widely used in the production of pharmaceutical, colorants and spicery. The traditional method (NaCN route) should be improved for its plurality of steps, low yields and pollution problem. The novel carbonylation method in which phase transfer catalysis and cobalt carbonyl complexes were used exhibited higher yield and lower cost as well as environmental benignancy. Therefore carbonylation route will be a promising method in industrial application.
The novel carbonylation method using phase transfer catalysis and cobalt carbonyl complexes provides higher yield, lower cost, and environmental benignancy for the synthesis of diethyl malonate, a key intermediate in pharmaceutical, colorants, and spicery production.
