Abstract
THAT MALEIC HYDRAZIDE (MH) is ani anti-mitotic appears to be well established. Greulach and Atchison (1950) found that MH inhibited mitosis in onion root tips and soon afterward Deysson and Rollen (1951) and Darlington and McLeish (1951) reported the inhibition of mitosis in several species of plants by MH. Subsequent reports on the anltimitotic action of MH have been made by Girolami (1951), Compton (1952), Rao and Wittwer (1952), and Greulach and Atchison (1953).
Maleic hydrazine inhibits mitosis in plants, promoting internode elongation and cell expansion, and promoting stem anatomy in various plant species.
