5-Bromomethyl-2(5H)-furanone was synthesized and its biological activities were tested in this paper.The MTT test showed that 5-bromomethyl-2(5H)-furanone in concentration of 0.25,5,10 μg/mL could inhibit the hyperplasy of A549 human lung cancer cells in a dosage–time-dependent manner.The growth of Exserohilum turcicum was inhibited completely in concentration of 50-200 μg/mL.

5-Bromomethyl-2(5H)-furanone inhibits A549 human lung cancer cell hyperplasy and completely inhibits Exserohilum turcicum growth at concentrations of 50-200 g/mL.
