Abstract
3,5-Di- tert -butyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid was synthesized in 63.7% overall yield by treatment of 2,6-di- tert -butyl-4-methylphenol with bromine in acetic acid to give 3,5-di- tert -butyl-4-hydroxy- benzaldehyde which underwent oxidization by Jones reagent.
