1-Methyl-4-bromoindole ethanol(4) and 1-methyl-4-bromoindole ethylamine(6) were synthesized by a three-step reaction and five-step reaction from 4-bromoindole in overall yield of 46.9% and 41.3%,respectively.The structures of 4 and 6 were characterized by 1H NMR,13C NMR and IR.4 is an important intermediate for preparing communesin and 6 is an important intermediate for preparing Clavicipitic acid.

4-bromoindole derivatives 4-methyl-4-bromoindole ethanol and 1-methyl-4-bromoindole ethylamine were synthesized with high yields, providing intermediates for preparing communesin and Clavicipitic acid.
