Abstract

2,3-Dimethoxy-6-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone-5-carboxylic acid was prepared in high yield by a reaction sequence starting from 2,3,4,5-tetramethoxytoluene (1) via a Blanc reaction, potassium dichromate oxidation, 30% H2O2 oxidation and ceric ammonium nitrate oxidation.
