With N-methyl-5-methoxyl-2-nitroaniline as a pivotal organic intermedium,the derivative of benzimidazole was synthesized with the 5-chloro-2-nitroaniline(1) as the starting material through four-step process such as through substitution,acetylation,methylation and then deacetylation to give the title compound(5),and its structure was determined by ~1HNMR.

N-methyl-5-methoxyl-2-nitroaniline is a key intermediate in the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives, with its structure determined by 1HNMR.
