Abstract
Aim: Aim of the work is to illustrate the case of a patient, having extended enamel erosions, associated with anorexia, and effectively treated with clear aligners. Materials and methods: The patient, a female aged 35, had a skeletal Class I, normal divergence, anterior crowding, slight deepbite, and too vertical incisors. She showed extensive erosions on the lingual and occlusal surfaces of the teeth, and worn front teeth. She has been treated with clear aligners for one year, followed by retention with the same appliance, because we thought that this was the better and less invasive solution. Results: The treatment led to the resolution of crowding, correction of overjet, overbite, and incisors' axis, and maintaining the integrity of the teeth. Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment with clear aligners has been the most suitable in a patient with enamel erosions. In addition, the aligners, both during active treatment, and the retention phase, have protected teeth from further erosive agents and trauma due to precontacts. This aesthetic solution is better accepted by the patient with reduced self-esteem and psychological disorders, because it does not make the patient's appearance worse, as a fixed appliance does. Therefore, we think that the solution adopted is most suitable, both for biological, and psychological reasons.
