Abstract
Abstract The best way to purify the bis(2-ethylhexyl) monothio-phosphoric acid (D2EHMTPA), which is used for metal ion extraction for waste water purification, was found to be by cobalt salt precipitation. The D2EHMTPA was converted first with sodium sulfate to the sodium salt and in the second step with cobalt sulfate to the cobalt complex. After precipitation and purification of the complex, cobalt was stripped with sulfuric acid. The yield was about 95% of the introduced bis(2-ethylhexyl)-monothiophosphoric acid.
