Abstract
ABSTRACT In this study, the catalytic mechanism of cetrimonium bromide (CTAB), a cationic surfactant, by Cu/ZnO nanoparticles was investigated. Further, the observed Cu/ZnO nanoparticles were synthesised by precipitation method in solution with sulphates of metallic precursors. Also, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for the crystalline and structural analysis of synthesised Cu/ZnO nanoparticles. SEM shows that the obtained Cu/ZnO nanoparticles are 180.4 nm in size. For phase identification of a crystalline material, XRD was used, and to observe chemical properties of Cu/ZnO nanoparticles, FTIR (Fourier transmission of infra-red) was studied. The maximum percentage removal of CTAB was found to be 96% under varying different conditions by time, dosage, pH and temperature parameters.
