Abstract
1,2,5-Triphenyl-1-carbethoxymethylenephosphole (I), a fairly stable isolable phosphorane, has been shown to undergo Wittig reactions with cyclohexanone, benzaldehyde, and acetaldehyde under a variety of conditions. Both the reactivity and stereoselectivity of I are less than the corresponding properties of triphenylcarbethoxymethylenephosphorane (II); these properties may be useful in certain applications.
