Abstract
A dark maroon red crystalline compound derived from 1-chloro-2, 4-dinitrobenzene, tert-butyl acetoacetate, and pyridine characterized through UV, FT-IR, 1H, 13C , and antimicrobial studies. In IR spectrum of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene, a c-cl stretching frequency appears at 732 cm-1 which is absent in the IR spectrum of the complex. This is the evidence for the formation of charge- transfer complex. In 13C NMR, a peak at 82ppm indicate the formation of a new C-C bond. The antimicrobial activity has been examined by disc diffusion method against gram- positive bacteria (staphylococcus aureus) and gram- negative bacteria (E.coli). Ciprofloxacin is used as a reference strain. Antifungal activity is also screened against aspergillus niger using Nystatin as a standard reference strain.
