Abstract
Abstract The reagent arsenazo III (1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulphonic acid-2,7-bis[(azo-2)-phenylarsonic acid]) gives marked colour reactions with a number of elements. Anions affect the reaction only to a slight degree and it is possible to work at low pH values; the reaction is very sensitive and the compound can thus be used for the photometric determination of Th, Zr, Hf, U, rare earths, and some other elements. The method is most selective for Th, Zr and U IV . Materials containing these elements can be analysed directly, in the solutions formed after dissolving the sample, without separation of the stable elements
