Contact Dermatitis
Abstract
Ranitidine is an H2-antagonist widely used in the treatment of peptic ulcers and related disorders. There are few reports of contact sensitivity to ranitidine or to other H2-antagonists. Camarasa & Alomar (!) reported the 1st case of sensitization to an H2-antagonist. Rycroft (2) and Goh & Ng (3) reported contact allergy to an intermediate in ranitidine synthesis (2, 3), and to ranitidine itself (3). Recently, Alomar et a!. ( 4) reported a case of allergic contact dermatitis due to ranitidine. Finally, Picardo & Santucci (5) have described urticaria from ingested ranitidine. We report 2 patients with allergic contact dermatitis from an intermediate in the synthesis of ranitidine, called cistoran, and from ranitidine itself.
