Abstract
Early detection of pregnancy offers many advantages for the fetus and the mother. Many medical benefits depend on early detection, including social and emotional well-being and the aviodance of medicationss, irradiation, and other teratogencis. In the past, women became aware of their pregnancies only when organogenesis of the fetus was almost concluded. Today, by means of beta-subunit human chorionic gonadotropin radioimmunoassay tests, pregnancy can be detected before the 1st day of the next expected menstrual period. Early pelvic ultrasound studies provide the ability to offer prognoses in those pregnancies as well.
