Abstract
Abstract 4-Methyl-2,6-diformylphenol (DFP) is an important fluorophoric platform for the development of chemosensors for assorted analytes. Different DFP based compounds have been able to detect several (i) metal ions such as Zn2+, Cu2+, Al3+, Mg2+ and Hg2+, (ii) anions such as N3−, H2PO4−, CH3COO−, H2AsO4−, ClO−, PO43− and AsO33−, (iii) neutral molecules such as mandelic acid, cysteine and glutathione, (iv) pH regions, etc. High selectivity and sensitivity of the DFP based chemosensors have been well documented. There are review articles on various fluorophoric platforms but to the best of my knowledge, this is the first review article covering the DFP based fluorescent chemosensors for various types of analytes. The research field on DFP based chemosensors is emerging and the presence of two formyl groups on DFP offer plenty of opportunity to modulate its sensing selectivity and sensitivity, and to develop more chemosensors.
