Abstract
Gallein has been found to be an excellent reagent for antimonous ions. Its 0. 05% aqueoussolution gives a violet-red coloration or precipitate with the latter.Limit of identification,0. 3γ.Concentration limit:1:166,000. Fe(Ⅲ),Ba(Ⅱ) and Pb(Ⅱ) interfere the reaction.Sn(Ⅱ)give an orange coloration. The colour intensity obeys Beer-Lambert's law.A series of observations on extinctionshows that the suspension formed is stable for low concentrations. Thus, gallein may be usedas a colorimetric reagent for antimonous ions.
