Abstract
Abstract Histochemical studies on the effect of (2[4′-thiazolyl]-benzimidazole) (Thiabendazole) and O,O ,-dimethyl-2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxy-methyl phosphonate (Neguvon) administered subcutaneously on the muscular tissue of healthy and Trichinella spiralis -infected mice were performed. The changes suggested an inhibition in the metabolism of the muscle tissue, reduced activity of alkaline phosphatase, succinic acid dehydrogenase, and “a” phosphorylase. The parasite also caused changes such as a decrease in ATPase and “a”-phosphorylase activity. These drugs also inhibited glycogen synthesis in the larvae and caused a reduction in their RNA content.
