Abstract
Abstract Pretreatment of rat with the smooth muscle dilating compound pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) completely prevented the hyperlipidemia of electric stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus usually observed in the choleretic rat. The prophylactic effect of PETN is attributable to its relaxation of the Sphincter of Oddi, preventing functional obstruction of the extrahepatic biliary system after hypothalamic stimulation.
